What’s your ideal imaginary writing retreat?

I’m watching Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring with my daughter tonight. She just finished the book recently and hadn’t seen the movie. Our scratched, beat-up DVD froze at one point right on a perfect scene of Rivendell, the elven outpost. And I thought, “If I could live in Rivendell for a while that would be the most perfect writing retreat ever!” The beautiful scenery, the lack of internet, the greenery and fresh air…

What imaginary place would be your perfect writing retreat?

    • I have to admit, I had to look this one up. How did I miss this movie?! And that house – oh my gosh! Gorgeous. Yes, totally a great place to sit and write! I’m going to have to check my local video rental place for this movie… and soon! Thanks Vikki!

  1. Mmm Rivendell would be nice. I have to disagree with you about the Internet thing though, I don’t think that I would be able to survive! I think that I would spend half of my time thinking about what I was missing on Twitter, in my inbox (esp. work), on CNN, etc.! I am so inspired by what I find on all of those places.

There is a gorgeous beach where I live and would love to write there. The only problem is I’m so uncomfortable without a desk! Writing in a beach chair is not exactly fun. If only I could temporarily put a desk on the beach!

    • I know, I probably would go nuts with no internet access. And if I’m going to find ways to waste time anyhow, I might as well do it being entertained/inspired/educated by the internet! Also, I bet there’s a collapsible desk out there somewhere in the world you could just tuck under your arm and drag out onto the beach! :) If not, I should totally invent that.

  2. Thanks for visiting my blog earlier today! I like the idea of a quiet location for a writers retreat- a place with a charming kitchen, a patio, and a jacuzzi to unwind in after a long day of writing.

  3. Rivendell would be really nice. Because those elves know how to do soothing, amiright? I would also love a secluded beach cottage. So I could hear the waves on the beach, but not the beach goers.
